Domestic Abuse Program

Domestic Abuse affects one out of four family households

Our Domestic Abuse Program is designed to treat the whole family – from aggressor to spouse/partner to the children involved in their lives. It’s the only program of its kind in Anoka County. Our program is designed to help all family members heal and move beyond the violence.

Most insurance plans are accepted. If you are a resident of Anoka County without insurance, a sliding scale fee payment plan is available.

We accept clients regardless of their county of residence and often enroll customers from across the larger 7 county metro and beyond

All groups are open and ongoing and adding new participants all the time. If a group has not been formed yet clients can begin the program individually.

Groups we offer:

  • Aggressor Groups (AM and PM offerings throughout the week)
  • Survivor Group
  • Restorative Parenting

The program consists of 20 weekly groups with other men who face the same difficulties. Each group is 2 hours long and the expectation is that each member will contribute to the group dynamic. The men work on effective behavior management skills and learn to amend underlying issues that may be affecting each person. If a client is seen individually, in order to meet State Legal requirements, the program goes for 24 sessions instead of 20.

Our philosophy at the Men’s Domestic Abuse Program is that all abuse can be treated and can be prevented in the future. We believe that abuse is not an accident; but a choice.

Domestic Abuse affects one out of four family households. In our program, women are given the freedom to think, feel, and speak without fear of reprisal. Control, anger, power, entitlement, and revenge are dynamics that women live with while being subjected to abuse.

Domestic abuse is recognized as physical assault but it also includes mental, emotional, sexual, financial, and spiritual abuse. The DAP groups provide a safe atmosphere for women to recognize the abuse they have experienced and provide tools to help them disengage from unhealthy and dangerous relationships. The DAP groups also provide clear guidelines for knowing what a healthy relationship looks like, dynamics that are critical to future choices

Children and youth who are exposed to domestic violence experience emotional, mental, and social damage that can affect their developmental growth. Some children lose the ability to feel empathy for others. Others feel socially isolated, unable to make friends as easily due to social discomfort or confusion over what is acceptable.

Our therapists work with children impacted by domestic violence and offers Restorative Parenting Groups and individual sessions to provide insights and offer strategies for healing.
